POLKE – Dorothy Rose, 89, passed peacefully into eternal rest on Monday, June 8th, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family.
Born on June 6th, 1937, in Johnstown, she was the daughter of the late Theodore and Pauline (Abraham) Rose. She married William J Polke, and together they built a life centered on faith, family, and love.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William J Polke; Son, William J Polke Jr.
A devoted mother, grandmother, and friend, Dorothy found her greatest joy in being with her family and friends.
Her career included being executive assistant for numerous doctors, School Board President of Greater Johnstown School District, President of Cambria County Community College, Administrative Assistant to Cambria County Commissioner Frederick Soisson.
She was a member of St. Marys Antiochian Orthodox Church.
She is survived by her sons, Aaron (Susan) Polke, Jason (Deana) Polke; Daughter-in-law, Wina Polke; Grandchildren, Brittany DiRenzo (Tony), Jordyn Polke, Noah Polke, Carly Polke; Sister, Bernetta Chicarell (James); and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and dear friends who will cherish her memory.
Though our hearts are heavy with loss, we find comfort in knowing that her legacy of love, faith, kindness, and devotion lives on through the family she cherished so deeply.
A viewing will be held on Friday, June 12th, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at St. Marys Antiochian Orthodox Church, Funeral services will follow, with Father Don Shadid, Interment will take place at Benshoff Hill Cemetery following services.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the funeral fund by making a check out to Baker Funeral Chapel in honor of Dorothy Polke
