Elizabeth V. (Williams) “Betty” Jones, a cherished and vibrant soul, passed peacefully on Sunday, March 22nd, 2026, in Johnstown, PA. She was born on May 21st, 1932, in Johnstown, PA.
Betty was the beloved matriarch of the Anthony family, a role she carried with grace, strength, and unwavering love. She is preceded in death by parents, Thomas and Eva (Anthony) Williams; her devoted husband of 38 years, Willie Jones; Her daughter, Ericka Jones; her grandson, Makiah Jones; and her siblings, Earl (Willa Mae Herring) Williams, Ernest (Martha) Williams, and Bernice (Paul) Simms, Sr. She was also preceded in death by her beloved cousins, Lois Gaithers, Mckinley and Grace (Anthony) Jenkins, and Joseph and Joan Marie (Anthony) Davis; niece-in-law, Viola (Burnett) Anthony.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her loving son, Dana Jones; her stepdaughter, Ellis and Racine (Cunningham) Leverett; her grandchildren, Shatara Jones and Danen Cobaugh; great-grandchildren, Mi’amor Jones, Qua-Zeem Abdul-Ghaffaar, and Any’leii Jones; and her great-great-grandchild, Adore Jones; Cousin/ Brother, Robert Anthony. She leaves her devoted goddaughter, David and Roxann Vernice (Myers) Durham
Betty was deeply loved by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to her nephew, Rev. Maurice Williams, and Sandra Williams for their loving care and steadfast support throughout her life. Special thanks are also extended to Cynthia McCray and Trish Williams for their dedicated assistance in her care over the years.
Betty found great joy on tending to her garden and lovingly caring for her grandchildren. A woman of strong faith, she was a devoted Christian and served faithfully as a member and deaconess of Mt. Sinai Institutional Baptist Church in Johnstown, PA. Betty worked as a hairdresser while living in New York and returned to Johnstown to become a licensed beautician for over 50 years her in Johnstown. Betty was a well-dressed and stylish lady; she kept up with the trends of today and brought back styles from the past.
Friends and family will be received on Friday, April 10th, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Mt. Sinai institutional Baptist Church. A homegoing Service will be held on Saturday, April 11th, 2026, from 10 AM until the time of service at 11:00 AM at Mt. Sinai institutional Baptist, 351 Second Street Conemaugh, PA 15909, with Rev. Webster Israel officiating with Rev. Maurice Williams as the Eulogist. Interment will be taking place following the service at Grandview Cemetery.
